Sessions
This content is derived from the Sessions listing in Issue 51 of Shreds and Patches.
A typical session will involve singers or musicians, or both, arranging with a landlord
to have the use of part of their premises for performing music in an informal way.
At first glance, sessions often seem to be unstructured, but the beginner should be aware
there is often an understood, if unwritten, etiquette in operation. If in doubt about joining in,
it's easy to quietly ask. Simple courtesy is usually enough. Sightseers are generally expected to
leave the performers with a centre circle, so that each performer can hear the other well: this
improves the quality of the music. It is rare for amplification to be used.
